NAPOLEON -- The Wapakoneta boys swim team captured the Western Buckeye League title at the meet on Saturday, with the Lady Redskins earning second place.

It is the first league title for the Redskins boys since 2016. They finished with 308 points, with St. Marys taking second with 229. Ottawa-Glandorf (207), Shawnee (160) and Van Wert (130) filled out the top five, followed by Kenton, Defiance, Elida, Celina and Bath.

Nate Metzger set a record in the 200 yard freestyle with his time of 1.47.43.

Alex Honigford set two marks on the day, one in the 50 yard freestyle (21.66) and also in the 100 yard freestyle (47.83).

The Redskins also took first in all three relay events.

The Ottawa-Glandorf girls took top team honors with 359 points, with Wapakoneta getting 264. Third was Shawnee (165), then St. Marys (134), Defiance (90), Bath, Van Wert, Kenton, Celina and Elida.

Individually for the Lady Redskins, Elizabeth Gesler took first in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:06.39.

Addisyn Newman was first in the 50 yard freestyle. Her time was 25.64 seconds.
