VOLLEYBALL: Redskins fall to Celina, drop first WBL match

While the score may have been in favor of the Bulldogs the Redskins started off strong in all three sets leading most of the time. In the opening set, there was a total of 19 ties in a thrilling 31-29 Bulldog win, which appeared to be in the bag for Wapakoneta as they held a 24-21 lead near the end. 

Wapakoneta coach Megan Brown spoke after the match about her team’s performance, “we played well, it’s not that we played poorly I think it just came down to a couple of points that went their way instead of our way, “ said Brown. She would add, “when two of the three sets go into extra points you know it’s a tough match that comes down to every single point.”

With the loss, the Redskins fall to 7-1 in WBL play and 13-4 overall, Brown would also speak about her team moving forward, “anytime you lose it’s a learning opportunity, every single play matters and when you see it come that close you realize that you can’t take a single playoff and going forward I’ll think we’ll learn from it and get better.”

The crowd was electric across all three sets in a nearly full house at Wapakoneta. Brown would discuss playing in “this was a great atmosphere, the fans, the students, everybody came out a showed a ton of support and it makes the game so much more fun to play in, so much more fun to watch. Everybody was focused on the game, everyone was cheering. It was just a great volleyball atmosphere tonight and I’m just happy to be a part of it. “

The Redskins were led by Kaleigh Palmer’s 24 kills and eight digs. Emily VanHorn added 10 kills for the Redskins in her large role. Reyna Woodruff led the team with 28 assists and Carlie Schroeder led with 20 digs. 

Celina now pulls ahead to the top of the WBL standings at 8-0 in league play and 17-4 overall. 

The Redskins will look to bounce back against Defiance in another WBL match Tuesday.
