LIMA — Wapakoneta junior outside hitter Kaleigh Palmer has been named the Western Buckeye League’s Player of the Year for 2021.

Palmer finished the regular season with 465 kills on 1,087 attempts (42.8 kill percentage) in 72 sets. She provided 214 digs, 34 total blocks, 24 aces with a 92.5 serving percentage (197 successful serves of 213 attempts) and 305 serve receives.

Palmer was joined on the All-WBL first team by Celina’s Brooklyn Bourne and Payton Bertke, Elida’s Kylie Vorhees, Ottawa-Glandorf’s Erin Kaufman and Miya Ellerbrock and Shawnee’s Karrington Green.

Phil Bange was the Coach of the Championship Team.

The All-WBL second team included Bath’s Lili Green, Celina’s Summer Wilson, Elida’s Addisyn Freeman, Ottawa-Glandorf’s Katie Kaufman, St. Marys Memorial’s Brynn Clark and Shawnee’s Gracie Freiberger.

Wapakoneta junior setter Reyna Woodruff was an All-WBL third-team selection with Bath’s Clair Foust, Celina’s Amelia Lutz, Defiance’s Cadence Miller, Shawnee’s Kelly Cooper and Van Wert’s Carlee Young.

Woodruff had 551 assists on 1,580 ball handling attempts during the 2021 regular season. She finished with 28 aces and a 94.9 serving percentage (261 successful serves on 275 attempts). Woodruff added 14 total blocks, 179 digs and 38 serve receives.

Wapakoneta junior defensive specialist Carlie Schroeder received All-WBL honorable mention. Other honorable mention picks were Bath’s Claire Armentrout, Celina’s Sydnee Davis, Defiance’s Grayce Jones, Elida’s Olivia Hollstein, Kenton’s Brynn Butler, St. Marys Memorial’s Halle Huston, Shawnee’s Paige Maxwell and Van Wert’s Maria Bagley.

Schroeder completed the regular season with 472 serve receives, 286 digs and 22 aces with a 92.3 serving percentage (241 successful serves on 261 attempts).

WBL champion Celina went 9-0 in conference play and 18-4 overall. The rest of the standings included Ottawa-Glandorf (8-1, 17-5), Elida (6-3, 13-6), Wapakoneta (6-3, 13-8), Shawnee (5-4, 12-8), St. Marys Memorial (4-5, 7-15), Bath (3-6, 8-11), Defiance (3-6, 5-13), Van Wert (1-8, 4-15) and Kenton (0-9, 3-15).
