WAPAKONETA — The Ohio Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Associations named Wapakoneta Athletic Director Brad Rex as its 2021 Athletic Administrator of the Year.

This award gives recognition to athletic administrators who have exhibited superior performance throughout their career, exemplifying the highest standards of ethical conduct, integrity, moral character, service, leadership and professionalism.

“It’s a great honor to receive this award. I want to thank the Northwest District for nominating me,” Rex said.

Rex has led Wapakoneta’s athletic department for 13 years.

The COVID-19 pandemic provided extra challenges for athletic directors.

“This job includes scheduling games, finding officials to oversee the games, managing coaches and budgeting for all sports,” Rex said. “The pandemic made that difficult because protocols needed to be followed. There were times when I wasn’t sure if games would take place or if officials would be available. Then I had to determine if fans would be allowed to attend the games or how many could be there.”

The OIAAA is an organization of 613 members.

Rex serves the Northwest District of the OIAAA as its treasurer.
