The Wapakoneta girls opened Division I sectional play on Saturday afternoon with a 54-30 win over Madison at the WHS gym.

The Lady Redskins led wire-to-wire in the game, which was pushed back from Thursday due to poor weather conditions.

Wapakoneta improves to 8-14 on the year. They advance to the district semifinals, which will be Thursday at Lake High School in Millbury. The Lady 'Skins will face Notre Dame Academy in the first game of a doubleheader at 5:30 p.m.

Coach Rusty Allen of Wapakoneta praised the team's intensity in the win. "The first quarter really set the tone. Our girls did a nice job not letting them have any easy shots."

Casey Minnig had 12 points for Wapakoneta, while Nikane Ambos and Allie Wilson each had nine. Katie Lisi and Elisabeth Good put in seven apiece.
