FINDLAY — Two Wapakoneta doubles teams and a singles player advanced to district play after finishing in the top four at the OHSAA Division I Girls Tennis Findlay I Sectional Tournament on Saturday.
No. 3-seeded MaKenzie Schroeder and Abby Metzger became sectional doubles champions for the Redskins after defeating pair of teams Saturday. The knocked off No. 2-seeded Libby Lamaster and Madison Barberree (Findlay) 6-1, 6-1 in the semifinals before sweeping No. 1-seeded Rachel Ward and Brianna Dunham (Perrysburg) 6-4, 7-5 for the sectional title.
Ward and Dunham defeated No. 4-seeded Bailey Barrett and Elisabeth Good (Wapakoneta) 6-1, 6-3 in the semifinals before the Redskins bounced back in the sectional third-place match. Barrett and Good overcame a first-set loss to defeat Lamaster and Barbarree 1-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Brooke Minnig fell to Sydney Swisher (Findlay) 6-0, 6-1 in the semifinals of the sectional singles tournament. Perrysburg's Mona Abdul-Aziz defeated Minnig 6-1, 6-0 in the third-place match.
The OHSAA Division I Girls Tennis Northwest District Tournament is set to take place at 10 a.m. Thursday (first round and quarterfinals) and at 10 a.m. Saturday (semifinals, third-place match and championship) at Port Clinton High School.
Schroeder and Metzger play Trinity Smith and Morgan Shetzer (Fremont Ross) in a first-round match. Barrett and Good play Kinsley Jahns and Allie Laplante (Oregon Clay) in another first-round match.
Minnig has a first-round match against Lily Black (Anthony Wayne).
