Wapakoneta jumped to an early lead on Friday night, but host Defiance kept nipping at their heels, and eventually went on to a 46-39 Western Buckeye League victory.

The Redskins are now 3-4 in league play and 11-8 overall. They have alternated wins and losses in their last four contests, with this falling into the latter column.

The Redskins used an 11-0 run in the first quarter to seize the early momentum, and led by 10 points after one.

They pushed that lead to 14, but Defiance reduced it to five by the time the teams broke for halftime.

The Bulldogs kept gnawing away with baskets here and there. Defiance took the lead at the start of the fourth and kept it, using free throws down the stretch to wrap it up.

Wapakoneta plays at Coldwater on Saturday night.
