ANNA — Botkins was the runner-up and Wapakoneta placed 11th among 18 teams in the boys cross country race at the Anna Invitational on Saturday.
West Liberty-Salem won the team championship over Botkins by a 47-95 margin. The rest of the field included Lakota West (102), Tippecanoe (155), Bellbrook (161), Houston (186), Covington (211), Anna (261), Sidney (268), Bellefontaine (277), Wapakoneta (323), Indian Lake (333), Kalida (336), Graham (339), Bath (344), Spencerville (446), Triad (463) and Bethel (507). Fairlawn, Lehman Catholic, Lima Central Catholic and Riverside did not have complete teams.
Anna’s Hayden Schmidt was the medalist in 16 minutes, 11 seconds.
Four Botkins runners finished among the top 25, including Keaton Schnippel (ninth in 17:03), Shane Weatherhead (18th in 17:43), Carter Pleiman (19th in 17:50) and Parker Schnippel (21st in 17:53). Other competitors for the Trojans were Carson Brown (28th in 18:10), Cole Steinke (29th in 18:11), Grant Flora (42nd in 18:42), Collin Doseck (47th in 18:47), Austin Rogers (76th in 19:29), Jacob Grunden (117th in 20:15), Ethan Gillette (218th in 22:57), Jacob Yenser (219th in 22:58), Dylan Topp (222nd in 23:13), Christian Denning (224th in 23:15), Noah Topp (234th in 23:46), Alex Beem (283rd in 28:19) and Corey Kidwell (289th in 30:58).
Axton Fosnaugh (17th in 17:42) was the lone Wapakoneta runner to finish in the top 25. Other competitors for the Redskins were Cash Schadl (37th in 18:36), Connor Shroyer (78th in 19:31), Kolvyn Clausing (162nd in 21:31), Nathan Doll (164th in 21:34), Christian Augsburger (198th in 22:24), Ethan Cope (233rd in 23:45) and Lucas Kline (287th in 30:33).
William B. Saxbe Invitational
MECHANICSBURG — Alec Spangler led Waynesfield-Goshen as the Tigers competed in the William B. Saxbe Invitational on Saturday.
Spangler placed seventh in 18:51, while teammate Brody Barrington finished 20th in 20:07. Cole Steinke (27th in 20:47) and Joey Brodman (54th in 23:13) also competed for W-G, which did have enough runners to place in the team standings.
Mechanicsburg won its home invitational by an 18-51 margin over Brookville. Urbana (78) and North Union (86) finished among the top four teams.
Mechanicsburg’s Will Negley was the medalist in 17:39.
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
ANNA — Botkins finished fourth among 13 teams at the Anna Invitational on Saturday.
West Liberty-Salem won the team championship over Anna by a 48-90 margin. The rest of the field included Lakota West (94), Botkins (114), Bellbrook (124), Sidney (196), Tippecanoe (202), Graham (214), Indian Lake (225), Defiance (227), Covington (224), Bellefontaine (286) and Bethel (411). Bath, Fairlawn, Houston, Kalida, Riverside, Spencerville, Triad and Wapakoneta did not have complete teams.
Lakota West’s Evelyn Prodoehl was the medalist in 18:33.
Three Botkins runners finished among the top 25, including Brittany Arnold (third in 19:30), Alaina Mann (tenth in 20:55) and Grace Gutman (18th in 21:54). Other competitors for the Trojans were Malanie Maurer (39th in 22:53), Ava Egbert (61st in 23:51), Alaina Jutte (72nd in 24:31) and Alivia Free (82nd in 25:11).
Mariel Augsburger (32nd in 22:34) led Wapakoneta, followed by Lillith Lautzenheiser (47th in 23:20), Amelia Sammetinger (59th in 23:48) and Maggie McDermitt (94th in 25:34).
William B. Saxbe Invitational
MECHANICSBURG — Kyra Sutherland and Peyton Webb represented Waynesfield-Goshen at the William B. Saxbe Invitational on Saturday.
Sutherland finished 13th in 24:25, while Webb placed 39th in 33:22.
Brookville’s Marlee Ross was the medalist in 21:13.
North Union edged Brookville 44-47 for the team championship. Mechanicsburg (50) and Urbana (84) placed among the top four.
