Those traveling on U.S. Route 33 near St. Marys this afternoon may have encountered delays. Late this afternoon a motorcycle was traveling on U.S. Route 33, between State Route 66 and 29 when a back tire blew out. The driver had to lay down the bike on its side. The driver and passenger were transported to Lima memorial hospital by St. Marys EMS. Wapakoneta Post Trooper Mike Mahaffey said one of the St. Marys Police officers was nearby when the crash happened and was able to render aid.
“There were units on scene almost immediately,” Mahaffey said. The driver was reportedly in more serious condition than the passenger. The crash caused lane closures on U.S. Route 33 and traffic was temporarily rerouted onto State Route 66. U.S. Route 33 was later opened to one lane. No names have been released at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
