WRESTLING: Wapak fifth in home invitational

The Wapakoneta Redskins varsity wrestling team finished fifth in its home invitational on Saturday at Wapakoneta High School.

Colerain scored 240 points to pull out the team win at the Wapakoneta Invitational. Vandalia Butler was second at 207.5 followed by Bellevue (197), Hilliard Bradley (192) and Wapak (156).

In all, 10 teams competed in the meet.

For the Redskins, Holden Hengstler was the only individual winner. Hengstler took the top spot at 170 pounds with a 5-3 decision over Bellevue’s Brendan Adkinson in the title bout.

J.T. Martin was second at 106 pounds. He was knocked off by Troy Christian’s Jarred Ganger in a 14-5 decision in the final.

Also finishing second for the Redskins was 120-pounder Derick Dean, who was pinned at the 1:06 mark by Colerain’s Austin Cox.

At 138 pounds, Wapak’s Nate Valentine posted a 10-1 major decision over Colerain’s Tyler Saurwein in the third-place match.

David Duncan finished fourth for Wapak, getting pinned by Marion Harding’s Tyler Cermak in the third-place contest.

At 285, Nick Warner placed fourth due to an injury default.

Colton Brown won the fifth-place bout for the Redskins, pinning Northeastern’s Adam Sudhoff at the :53 mark.

Sixth-place finishers for Wapak included Dallas Ambos (126 pounds), Heath Newman (152 pounds) and Jarred Carpenter (220 pounds).
