It was a fight to the finish — and what a finish it was.
Wapakoneta rallied for a 4-3 victory over rival St. Marys on Tuesday in a Division II sectional playoff game, getting the winning runs in its final at-bat.
The Lady Roughriders had a 3-0 lead, but Wapakoneta scored twice in the sixth to make it a one-run game.
After Maddi Doseck drew a walk to start the seventh, Corrin Wilder's grounder found a way through the right side, and Doseck came around to draw the Lady Redskins even.
Two batters later, Tianna Thompson drove a ball to the left side. It was slowed down, but not stopped, and Wilder raced around third and across the plate to give Wapakoneta the win.
Wapakoneta is now 10-8 on the year, while St. Marys is 5-13.
Alex Daum was the winning pitcher. She allowed seven hits and did not walk a batter. She got nine strikeouts.
For St. Marys, freshman Karsyn McGlothen gave up three hits in her seven innings. She had nine walks and 11 strikeouts.
Addy Allen had the only hit for Wapakoneta prior to the seventh.
For St. Marys, Emma Birt had a triple and single, and drove in one run. Kiley Tennant had two hits and scored twice. Alyssa Alexander drove in two runs with a hit in the fifth.
