Theresa Carnes, 90

Theresa Benny Carnes, 90, of Wapakoneta, died at 5:40 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012, at Auglaize Acres in Wapakoneta.
She was born March 3, 1922, in Columbus, the daughter of Theresa (Farago) and Nicholas Benny, who both immigrated from Hungary in the early 1900s and preceded her in death. On Aug. 25, 1946, she married Emmett J. Carnes of rural Spencerville, and he died July 9, 1996.
Surviving are four daughters, Joyce (Joseph) Morey, of Wapakoneta, Shirley (Duane) Hughes, of Wapakoneta, Betty Carnes, of Lima, and Mary (Bill) Napper, of Morral; six grandchildren, Patricia (Bryan) Darling, Rob (Bethann) Morey, Jason (Wendi) Morey, Christi (Chris) Schellenberg, Ben Carnes and Kenny Hughes; 12 great-grandchildren, two brothers, David (Janet) Benny, of Lima, and Arnold (Sharon) Benny, of Wapakoneta, two sisters, Regina (Wayne) Bailey, of Lima, and Irma (Donald) Newland, of Howard; and several nieces aand nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy; a son, Roger; a bother, Nicholas Benny; and three sisters, Wilma Benny, Mathilda Wright, and Amelia Lineberger.
Theresa attended schools in Lima and Wapakoneta and was a 1939 graduate of Blume High School in Wapakoneta. She graduated from Northwestern School of Commerce in Lima, with a secretarial diploma in 1941. Mrs. Carnes was an active member of St. Johns United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school and Bible school for many years and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She volunteered at United Local Elementary School and worked as a cafeteria aid there for several years. She was a member of the St. Johns Fire Department Auxiliary, the Auglaize County Homemakers Club, the Ford Retirees, the Uniopolis Historical Society, and a lifetime member of the Buckeye Farm Antiques, Inc. Theresa was also a member of the St. Johns, Auglaize County Pomona and Ohio State Grange. In 2007, she was honored as a 50-year member by the Ohio State Grange. Her hobbies included sewing, gardening, baking, and spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Services are at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, St. Rt. 501, Wapakoneta, with the Rev. Steven Nelson officiating. Burial is to follow in the Fairmount Cemetery near Uniopolis.
Friends may call from 3to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
