Wapakoneta High School senior Dan Reichenbach was recently named the Daughters of the American Revolution Lima Chapter Good Citizens Award Recipient.

As part of the contest, Reichenbach had to complete an application and a resume. He also had to write two statements, one about his service to his community and another about the four qualities of the DAR: service, dependability, leadership and patriotism. In addition to all this, Reichenbach had to write an essay that was 550 words or less in two hours about a topic that wasn’t revealed until the day of the essay.

For winning, he received a trophy and a scholarship of around $120. He is now eligible to compete at the district level of the DAR contest. His information has already been sent on to the next level and he will be notified in late March if he has been selected, he said.

“I've never won this kind of thing before, so it was definitely a good feeling that I can excel in something as long as I put my mind to it,” Reichenbach said.
