Robert Bennett, 75

Robert Rudell “Bob” Bennett, 75, of Wapakoneta, went to his heavenly home on Oct. 10, 2011. He died at the Wapakoneta Manor after an extended illness.
He was born July 31, 1936, in Indiana County near Gipsy, Pa., the eldest son of the late Florence Edna (Henry) and Everett Rudell Bennett. On July 21, 1956, he married Fern Carpenter and lived most of his married life in Darke County moving to Wapakoneta in 2009. His wife survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Susan (Kevin) Ulis, of Wapakoneta, Sharon (Bradley) Kimmy, of Corry, Pa. and Sheryl (Stewart) VanDine, of Greensboro, N.C.; eight grandchildren, Robert (Angel) Ulis, Kelley and Karen Ulis, Adrienne Kimmy, Melissa (Zachary) Salazar, Brittany Miller, Joshua and Shirley VanDine; one great-granddaughter, Grace Ulis; and four brothers, H. Levert (Martha) Bennett, of New Castle, Wash., H. Lyman (Charlotte) Bennett, of Mexico, N.Y., Jack A. (Sandra) Bennett, of Union City, Pa. and Maurice A. (Sonia) Bennett, of Youngsville, Pa.
Preceding him in death were his parents and a granddaughter, Stephanie Kimmy.
He was a 1954 graduate of Union City Joint High School in Union City, Pa., and a graduate of General Electric Machinist Course in Erie, Pa. in 1959. He also attended Wright State University. His life’s career was in supervision and management in manufacturing, retiring in 2001 from Dayton-Phoenix Group in Dayton as manufacturing engineer supervisor.
Robert loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and was always active in his church. He was a gifted Sunday School teacher and enjoyed teaching for over 45 years. He served on church boards and was a board secretary and a church trustee many years. He was a member of the Wapakoneta Church of the Nazarene, Gideons International, North American Die Cast Association, Southern Ohio Chapter 14 and had served as its chairman and secretary. He enjoyed Bible teaching, family, camping, hunting, fishing, gardening and fixing things others would throw away.
Services are at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Church of the Nazarene in Wapakoneta, with the Revs. Philip Cook and Lowell Miller, friends of Mr. Bennett, officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Wapakoneta.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home in Wapakoneta, and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Contributions may be made to the Wapakoneta Church of the Nazarene or to the Gideon’s International in tribute to Mr. Bennett’s lifelong joy of serving the Lord and teaching His Word.
