Robert Becker, 87

Robert E. “Bob” Becker, 87, of Wapakoneta, died at 5:54 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, 2012, at the Lima Memorial Health System.
He was born May 19, 1924, in Spencerville, the son of Gertha M. (Rempher) and George P. Becker, who preceded him in death. On Feb. 16, 1945, he married Eileen R. (Barton) Becker, and she died Jan. 23, 2002.
Surviving are two sons, Steven R. (Halley) Becker, of Westerville, and Ronald W. Becker, of Galena; three daughters, Linda S. Murphy, of Creedmoor, N.C., Joy K. (Jerry) Dicus, of Cridersville, and Jan F. (Ed) Struble, of Durham, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, and one little angel on the way; a sister, Mary B. Burson, of Poinciana, Fla.; two sister-in-laws, Evon Becker, of Indiana, and Bertha Becker, of Oklahoma City, Okla.
He was preceded in death by a son, James A. Becker, and five brothers, Carl Becker, Maurice Becker, Harold Becker, Forest Becker, and Wayne Becker.
Bob retired in 1985 as vice-president of sales at The Powell Co. in Lima, after 33 years of service. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church in Wapakoneta. He was a member and past master of Hamer Lodge 167 F. & A.M. in Wapakoneta, a member of St. Marys Council 81 R. &S.M., and a member and past high priest of the Wapakoneta Chapter R.A.M. 183. He was a member and past president for many years of the Wapakoneta Masonic Temple Co. Bob was formerly active with the Wapakoneta Boy Scouts, the Lima Management Club, and was a member of the National Management Association A 1942 graduate of Spencerville High School, he attended The Ohio State University, where he participated in ROTC and received his pilot’s license. He volunteered with the American Red Cross. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, and traveling. He enjoyed spending time with his family, and strongly supported his grandchildren in their college endeavors.
Services will be 1 p.m., Fri. at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, State Route 501, Wapakoneta, with the Revs. Pamela Hanlon and Shawn Morris officiating. Burial will follow in the Spencerville Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday and noon to 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
A Masonic memorial service will be 7:45 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
