Now that's how you start a season.
After months of workouts and drills and scrimmages, Wapakoneta rolled out of the gate and steamrolled visiting Bellefontaine 28-0 in the season opener at Harmon Field Friday night.
Putting full faith in their ground attack, the Redskins had three rushers break the 100-yard mark, while holding Bellefontaine to less than 60 net yards on the ground.
Quarterback Reed Merricle ran 13 times for 128 yards, with the majority in the first half. Evan Kaeck had 14 carries for 107 yards and scored three of the team's four touchdowns. Junior Connor McDonald had 106 yards on just seven carries, including a 79-yard scamper for the first score of the season.
