WAPAKONETA — A sudden shift left the Redskins out in the cold.
Wapakoneta had its 2019 season come to an end Friday night, losing to Trotwood-Madison 33-21 in the regional quarterfinals of the Division III playoffs at Harmon Field.
The Redskins end the year at 9-2.
Wapakoneta struck first, scoring on its opening drive. They held off the Rams until just before halftime, with a touchdown pass tying the contest at 7.
Disaster struck early in the third quarter. After stopping Wapakoneta on its opening drive, Trotwood-Madison ran back the punt for a score to take the lead.
They then recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff, falling on the ball in the end zone to take a 20-7 lead without running an offensive play. They added another to make it a 20-point lead.
The Redskins clawed their way back with a pair scores in the fourth quarter to cut the gap down to just six with five minutes to play.
But Trotwood-Madison was able to take the ball down and score one more time to seal the win.
