Wapakoneta senior Shelby Kohler shot a season-low for nine holes Monday in her team’s 189-197 win Monday against the Celina Bulldogs at Fox’s Den Golf Course in Celina.

Kohler parred the last five holes en route to a 39, earning match medalist honors.

“Shelby had a great night,” Wapak varsity coach Dawn West said Monday. “She was in control of her swing the entire round even on the holes she made bogey. She has really been a great leader for our team this season.”

Zoe Rayburn followed with a 47. Emily Klopfenstein shot a 51. Sierra Sammons carded a 52.

“We came out firing tonight from the first hole, which was nice to see as Monday matches can tend to be a struggle for us,” West said. “We got off the first tee very well as a whole and played pretty steady from there on. It was a good confidence builder going into Wednesday’s WBL match in Defiance, which should be a great matchup.”

The Redskins are now 3-0 in matches against Western Buckeye League member schools this season after their win Monday.

Wapak had previous wins over Defiance and Shawnee.

The WBL does not sanction a league championship for girls golf with only 4 of its 10 member schools fielding teams, but the four schools who do sponsor girls golf will play in a quad match Wednesday at Eagle Rock Golf Club in Defiance.

Johnna Walls and Kelly Stahl each had 48 to lead Celina.

Haley McGillvary (50) and Megan Settler (51) concluded the Bulldogs’ scoring.

Wapak will visit Lima Central Catholic today.
