Quarter auction benefits Relay for Life

After a successful event last year, the Greater Auglaize County Relay for Life team Rock Out Cancer is planning another quarter auction this Saturday.

For a quarter auction, a variety of consultants donate items — with values between $15 and $100 — which guests can bid on. Those wanting to bid hold up their numbered paddle and after all bids are placed, a paddle number is drawn to determine the winner. By spending between $35 and $40, they can bid on everything.

The auction begins at 7 p.m. with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Vendors are to include Thirty-One Gifts, Pure Romance, Scentsy, Tastefully Simple, Pampered Chef, Mary Kay, Celebrating Home, and Pink Zebra. Other items to be auctioned are Yellow Cat spoon and fork jewelry, So Unique Bowtique & Designs by Pam Knoch, and other donated handmade items made by talented Wapakoneta residents, as well as gift certificates for Padrone’s, one-month memberships to Curves and The Athletic Club, various salon products, fine fashion jewelry by Cookie Lee, a Longaberger basket, and a 2012 family pass to the Wapakoneta WaterPark.

The team was able to raise $1,800 for the American Cancer Society through its quarter auction last year.

“We are always in awe of the support our team receives from the community and our friends,” said event organizer Tiffany Fullenkamp.

The Rock Out Cancer (R.O.C.) team is in memory of Fullenkamp’s younger brother, Jason Strauser, who died last spring after a seven-year battle with brain cancer and they have maintained the logo, “Cancer Sucks!”

“The businesses donating things know that Relay for Life is important to our family and they know we only have fundraisers that are fun,” Fullenkamp said. “We couldn’t be successful without them.”

Costs for the quarter auction are $2 per paddle and $5 for three paddles. One quarter bid is to pay for $15 to $25 in retail valued items, two quarters up to $50, three quarters up to $75, and four quarters up to $100. Everyone is encouraged to bring their own quarters.

The Relay for Life team’s signature Cancer Sucks items are to be on sale and campfire starters and luminaria order forms also are to be on hand for a donation.

The Greater Auglaize County Relay for Life is scheduled for Friday, June 22, and Saturday, June 23, at the Auglaize County Fairgrounds. There is still time to start a team, register a survivor or become a sponsor.
