New fairground campground rental rate should generate sizeable increase

Auglaize County Agricultural Society (fair board) members met Monday night and in one of their first actions of the new year approved a $25 increase in fairground camping fees, raising the rate from $200 to $225.

Interim Fair manager Ed Doenges said they hosted 448 campers last year. Board member Toby Lee calculated the increase in potential revenue for the fair to $11,200. The fair had lost revenue opportunities due to rainy days at the 2018 fair and remains in debt. Doenges noted the price has not changed in four years and the price has always increased by $25 increments.

Prior to discussion about a rate increase, Vice President Steve Bushman said he attended a camping seminar at the 2019 Ohio Fair Managers convention, which several members also attended.
