LSO bringing 'Mozart by Candlelight' to St. Joseph

The Lima Symphony Orchestra returns to Wapakoneta with Mozart by Candlelight, on Sunday, Jan. 20, at 4 p.m. with a program to honor the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission that sent men to the moon for the first time.

“This will be an exquisite evening of Mozart and candlelight,” said 2019 Celebration Committee Co-Chairman Rachel Barber. “We are please to partner with as St. Joseph Church as our venue; the church opens its doors to the experience of music as performed during the composer's lifetime.”

In honor of the upcoming 50th anniversary of the moon landing and native son Astronaut Neil Armstrong’s first steps on the moon, the symphony will perform Mozart’s vast and mysterious “Jupiter Symphony.”

A Lima Symphony spokesman says, “Experience the brilliance of Mozart surrounded by soft, glowing candlelight a local sanctuary opens their doors to the experience of music as it was performed during Mozart’s lifetime. Featuring tenor Jordan Loyd performing two of Mozart’s exquisite arias, this elegant and beautifully crafted program will mark Conductor Crafton Beck’s final “Candlelight” performance with the LSO.”

Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children/students, and may be obtained from the St. John/St. Joseph Office, 309 Perry Street, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
