Local siblings shine at 2018 county fair

The Auglaize County Fair touts itself as the “family fair” and this year over on the Junior Fair side, a few exhibitors took that to heart.

Siblings won grand and reserve champions in three of the major livestock categories this year, a feat that no one can recall ever happening before now.

“Probably not in all three livestock categories — no,” said Beth Miller, Auglaize County director, Extension educator, 4-H Youth Development. She recalled the years the Sutherland family were showing steer and one year captured five of eight steer championship titles, which may have been around the same time the Uppenkamp family were showing championship sheep. “But that’s been many years ago,” she said.

This year, the Braun sisters showed championship sheep, the Egbert siblings showed championship steer, and the Harrod sisters captured...
