Lillian Herbert, 95

Lillian Louise (Hodges) Herbert, 95, of Sidney, died peacefully at 2:08 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012, at Fair Haven Nursing Home in Sidney.
She was born Oct. 6, 1917, in Hodgenville, Ky., the daughter of the late Minnie (Miller) and Ivy Davenport. She was also lovingly raised by her stepmother: Maude Davenport. Lillian married Charles A. Herbert, and he preceded her in death April 17, 1978.
Lillian is survived by three daughters, Doris Jean (Herman) Sloan, of Bonner Springs, Kan., Janice (Loren) Britt, of Wapakoneta, and Carolyn (Dan) Cregan, of Ooltewah, Tenn; three sons, James Herbert, of Berwick, La., Jerry (Ethel) Herbert, of Sidney, and Kenneth (Carolyn) Herbert, of Piqua; three sisters, Mary Peace, of Hodgenville, Ky., Edna Brown, of Hodgenville, Ky., and Virginia Benningfield, of Maryland; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Roy and Bobbi Davenport, of Louisville, Ky., and Donald and Faye Davenport, of Hodgenville, Ky.; 30 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sons, Larry Hodges, Robert Hodges and Edward Herbert; and five brothers: Carl Davenport, Leonard Davenport, Marshall Davenport, Edward Davenport and James Davenport.
Lillian was an active member of First Church of God on Campbell Road in Sidney. She retired from the Sidney City School System and Sidney Warehousing. Lillian was a custodian at both of her employers. She loved working and did not stop until she was 90 years young. Lillian loved flowers and gardening and attending tractor shows. She was an accomplished seamstress and also loved quilting.
Services are at 10 a.m. Thursday at Adams Funeral Home, 1401 Fair Road, Sidney, with the Revs. Jeremy Herbert Vernon Allison officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Cemetery in Port Jefferson.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
