Howard Thompson, 97

Howard Thompson, 97, died at 6:35 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014, at his home in rural Roundhead surrounded by his family.
He was born Sept. 3, 1916, to Martin and Effie (Campbell) Thompson. On April 18, 1936, he married Marjorie L. Austin in Newport, Ky., and she preceeded him in death on Aug. 14, 2007.

Survivors include five sons, Jim Thompson, Wapakoneta, Tom (Linda) Thompson, Lima, Ed (Pam) Thompson, Findlay, Brian Thompson, Waynesfield, Jon (Monica) Thompson, Roundhead; four daughters, Marlene (Gordon) Holbrook, Waynesfield, Joyce (Gene) Compton, Roundhead, Phyllis (Rex) McKinley, East Liberty, Jenelle Thompson, Roundhead; 23 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Marvin, Elwood, Joe and Frank, grandson Eric Thompson, daughter-in-law Rit and sister June Bahr.

Howard graduated from Alger High School in 1933. He was the production line leader and operator at Ex Cello Corporation in Lima, and retired from the company in 1979 after 29 years of service. He also worked on his family farm and greenhouse. Active in the community, Howard was a member of both Lakeview Eagles and Lakeview Masonic Lodge F&AM #722 where he was a 50-plus year member, Kenton Council #65, Antioch Shrine of Dayton and Scioto Royal Arch Masons #119 of Kenton. He loved hunting, fishing, camping and trap shooting. Howard was a past President of Roundhead School Board and was founding member and President of the Upper Scioto Valley School Board consolidating Roundhead, Alger and McGuffey Schools.

Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, at Armentrout Funeral Home, Waynesfield, with David Holbrook officiating. Burial will follow at Roundhead Cemetery, Roundhead.
Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home where a Masonic Service will be conducted at 8 p.m.

Contributions may be given to the Hardin County Hospice or the Roundhead Division of the USV Ambulance District.
