Fair board holds annual meeting

Steve Turner of Waynesfield will serve as the new president of the Auglaize County Agriculture Society, following an election during the second session of the board’s annual meeting held Saturday. Steve Bushman will continue his role as vice president. Turner, who received nine votes, beat out member Toby Lee by a single vote.Turner has served on the board for more than 20 years.

“It’s something I’ve always wanted to do,” he said of the leadership position. Turner will take over at the end of the year.

Current President Ed Doenges is serving as the interim fair grounds manager. The board voted in the first session to approve his pay rate of $20 an hour, including back pay to Oct. 18, and use of a county credit card up to $20,000. The board hired Dennis Dicke as treasurer at a salary of $19,968 and an assistant for the treasurer at $9 an hour. George Boris was approved a courier for the treasurer at $9.50 per hour.

A raise was also approved for office administrator Jessica Johns, from $15 per hour to $15.45. The board kept the fair board member pay at $30 per board meeting, $210 allowance for the week of the fair and $140 dollar food allowance. Members also...
