The Redskins are looking to the north for a winter sports leader.
Wapakoneta boys varsity basketball coach Doug Davis announced his retirement at the beginning of April.
According to information provided by Wapakoneta athletic director Brad Rex on Monday, a large group of applicants were considered to fill the position.
Rex stated in an email to the WDN that following interviews, the recommended choice to the school board will be Trey Elchert. He is currently an assistant coach at Columbian High School in Tiffin. The final decision is scheduled to be made at the school board meeting on May 12.
Elchert has been the coach of the ninth grade team for Columbian.
