Commissioners told of national opioid suit

The Auglaize County Commissioners met with Auglaize County Prosecutor Ed Pierce on Tuesday regarding the possible in joining litigation.

Pierce said he received an email recently from a law firm involved in a Multidistrict Litigation (MDL).

Such a suit is similar to a class action suit, but designed for political entities — states, counties — and allows them to join for one suit.

The litigation in question is against the manufacturers and distributors of opiates.

Pierce said the current case the law firm wants the county to join is centering on Northwest Ohio. As such, there was a meeting recently in Lima to discuss the MDL and how it works.

Pierce saw the meeting as an opportunity to get more information, while having a chance to speak with the Allen County prosecutors to see what kind of questions they have.
