Club to showcase gardens

A local garden club is hosting a tour of local gardens in Wapakoneta on Sunday.
The Roots and Shoots Garden Club will have a tour of five private gardens and one public garden in the area. This event will be held from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.
“Local home owners have graciously opened their beautiful gardens for public viewing to benefit the Roots and Shoots Garden Club,” member of the Roots and Shoots Garden Club Michele Bishop said.
The gardens that will be available for touring are Jill and Brad Burkard, 19510 Miller Rd., Lois and Ned Dammeyer, 1515 Springfield Ave., Elaine and John Poppe, 1100 W. Auglaize St., Juanita and Kurt Wilkins, 13664 Kohler Road and Michele and Al Bishop, 13606 County Road 25A South.
Local artists from the Riverside Art Center will be at the five homes either selling artwork, antique jewelry or painting at the garden.
This is the third garden tour that the club has organized, and Bishop said it has been several years since the last tour.
All of the proceeds will go to the Roots and Shoots Garden Club to fund the projects that they do throughout the city of Wapakoneta.
Bishop said the idea of doing the local tour came from a garden tour she attended in Sidney.
“I brought the idea back to the club,” Bishop said. “We love to share our gardening knowledge.”
This tour is a way for garden club members to showcase their gardens and provide information to visitors.
Tickets can be purchased at the Village Green Floral and Garden Center in Wapakoneta, or at each of the gardens on the day of the tour. The total cost to view all six gardens is $6.
