Art center to kick off local artist exhibit

The Riverside Art Center is soon to kick-off an exhibit featuring submitted art work from local residents.
The fourth annual Fall Juried Art Show is set to host its opening reception from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday at the Riverside Art Center.
“I am amazed of the diversity of the artists in the area,” Riverside Art Center Publicity Chair Maggie Bowsher said. “There is everything from clay to watercolor.”
Anyone in the area was eligible to submit their artwork to the exhibit, and 63 pieces of art were chosen for the display and to be judged.
“We had quite an assortment,” Bowsher said. “The talent is overwhelming.”
A total of 10 awards will be given out during the opening reception around 7:30 p.m. The art pieces will be judged by Gregg Luginbuhl.
Luginbuhl has exhibited ceramic sculptures and pottery in more than 150 regional and national exhibits and his work is included in many collections nationwide — in which he has received many awards.
His exhibition record includes one-person shows in seven states and he has been the juror for 12 regional exhibitions.
Luginbuhl earned his bachelor’s degree in art from Bluffton University in 1971 and his master’s degree in ceramics from the University of Montana in 1975.
He has taught at the University of Findlay for eight years and is currently teaching at Bluffton University as a professor of art and is also the chair of the Art Department and the chair of the Division of Fine Arts.
Bowsher encourages all to attend the opening reception, which is free to the public.
She said this exhibit gives local artists an opportunity to receive feedback from an expert in the field.
“This is a wonderful opportunity,” Bowsher said.
Monetary prizes include $150 for Best of Show, five $100 prizes and four $50 prizes.
The exhibit will be up at the Riverside Art Center until Nov. 13.
