The Wapakoneta High School FFA and representatives from the city’s fire, police and light departments provided safety demonstrations Thursday as part of the fifth-grade safety day at Wapakoneta Middle School.
“If we can save one accident or one life, the day is very well spent,” Wapakoneta High School FFA Adviser Ron Brown said.
Six stations were set up in the WMS parking lot and students rotated every 10 minutes. Each station featured different vehicles, including two tractors, a skid loader, police car, bucket truck, dirt bike and an ATV.
Newly elected FFA officers provided demonstrations at three of those stations. Andrew Lowden and Ridge Hut showed students how to be safe on off-road equipment such as ATVs and dirt bikes by pointing out the vehicles’ safety features and showing them the proper clothing to wear while riding.
