Have you ever wondered how certain people can put on a pair of tennis shoes, headphones and athletic apparel and just go out and run?
Have you ever wanted to do just that, and maybe finish a 5k, or just get into better shape?
Is running something you would like to do, but are convinced you just can’t?
If you answered yes to any of those questions, the YMCA has a program to help overcome any doubts concerning beginning to run.
Judi Bailey, YMCA aerobics instructor and Couch to 5k coach, started the Couch to 5k program two years ago as a program to help people that want to run, but don’t know where to start.
“It’s very intimidating, and it’s hard to know what to do,” Bailey said. “I came up with a seven week training program, it’s a walk/run program to help people make an easy transition to walking into running.”
Even though this program is intended to help beginners learn to run through interval training, Bailey keeps the focus on accomplishments, will power and teamwork.
