John O. Dysert, 65, of 10984 Schroeder Road, Saint Marys, died at 7:07 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, at his residence, following a lengthy illness.
He was born Sept. 24, 1948, in Celina, the son of James and Rebecca (Rupert) Dysert. He married Cathy K. Shelby on May 24, 1969, in San Diego, Calif., and she survives at the residence.
He is also survived by his four children: Brenda Garrigan (and Dale Whittaker) of Oviedo, Fla., Connie Thielecke of Memphis, Tenn., John Dysert of Youngstown and Jessica (Josh) Whitaker of Dayton. He is survived by five grandchildren: Ashley Thielecke, Danielle Thielecke, Erin Garrigan, Katie Dysert and James Dysert. He is survived by two brothers: Roger (Vicky) Dysert of Saint Marys and Bill (Malina) Dysert of Saint Marys.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by one brother, James V. Dysert, Jr.
John was a 1967 graduate of Saint Marys Memorial High School. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, and retired from the Navy in 1990. He worked for many years as a car salesman at Kern’s Ford in Saint Marys. He was a real patriot. He loved the Cleveland Browns and going golfing. His family meant everything to him.
Funeral rites will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2014, at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, with Pastor Dan Hellwarth as officiant. Burial, with full military honors, will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, where memorial gifts may be given to the Wounded Warrior Project.
