For senior citizens who are unable to drive and cannot rely on friends or family members, the Auglaize County Council on Aging (ACCA) offers a transportation service for individuals who are 60 and over.
In 2013, the ACCA served 818 clients in Auglaize County, and made 18,571 trips to locations as far away as Dayton, Columbus, Cincinnati and Fort Wayne, Ind. The organization owns 12 vehicles, some of which are handicap accessible, and went a total 217,022 miles last year. ACCA Transportation Coordinator Elsie McGlothen said that they make between 50 and 60 runs a day, which includes to and from the designated location. The ACCA spent $62,628.27 on gas in 2013.
With that much money being spent on gas in just one year, it can get expensive to fund the transportation service.
