Auglaize County Council on Aging is searching for caring individuals to volunteer in the "Friendly Visitor" program, which connects volunteers to homebound seniors in their communities.
The idea to bring volunteers into senior's homes started approximately 10 years ago at the center with ACCA Executive Director Christina Roby. While the center's elderly community continues to grow, so does the need for volunteers.
"We don't get very many volunteers, and there's more elderly that are aging and staying in their homes," Roby said about the program. "The isolation is really just terrible for people who are homebound. It takes more than a good meal and health care to keep a person happy if you look at a holistic approach."
"Friendly Visitor" activities may include reading, writing, corresponding, playing board games, among others.
One of the ACCA's biggest goals is to connect seniors with others their own ages and add activity to their days.
