During a regular Botkins village council meeting, Village Administrator Jesse Kent addressed council with a request for a service agreement with Pro-Tech Solutions to install new software for control of water and wastewater services in the village.
“SCADA is nothing more than software in a computer type platform to be able to electronically see, analyze and control your water and wastewater production,” Kent said.
Kent said the program allows for real-time data for water and sewer plants.
“Under SCADA, you would have a real-time view of what’s going on,” Kent said. “You’d be able to narrow down what exactly the problem is. SCADA is also a way to lower your manpower that the EPA puts on you for your water and wastewater.”
Kent said many other local communities have already integrated the system. Kent estimated Botkins would be in the $50,000 range. He requested council’s approval for a contract with Pro-Tech Solutions.
A motion was approved for the service agreement.
