Robert J. “Bob” Fritz, 89, of 2304 Kensington Drive, St. Marys, and a resident of the St. Marys Living Center, died at 4:50 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, at the St. Marys Living Center.
He was born March 29, 1924, in Wapakoneta, the son of Oliver and Minerva (Dresher) Fritz.
He married Dorothy L. Jurosic on May 25, 1950, at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Wapakoneta and she survives at the residence.
He is also survived by his two children: Nancy (Rick) Hornich of Mt. Vernon and David (Susan) Fritz of St. Marys; five grandchildren: Ashley Bunnell of Columbus, Matthew Bunnell of Jacksonville, Fla., Laura (Dustin) Taylor of St. Marys, Amy (Jon) Crusie of Celina and Kelly Fritz of St. Marys; two great-grandchildren: Jacob and Logan Taylor.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by one sister, Betty Vogel.
Bob was a graduate of Blume High School in Wapakoneta. He served in the United States Marine Corps during WWII. He retired from Crown Equipment Corporation, where he was a maintenance supervisor. He had also worked at Moran’s Refrigeration in St. Marys for many years and also owned his own appliance repair business.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and shooting. He was a life member of the NRA. He was a member of American Legion Post 323 and the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St. Marys. He was a real handyman who could repair anything.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, with the Reverend Barry Stechschulte as celebrant. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Miller-Long and Folk Funeral Home, 314 West High Street, St. Marys, where memorial gifts may be given to either the Friends of Holy Rosary School, Grand Lake Hospice or St. Marys Living Center.
