L. Mark Verdier, 71, of Sidney, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at 4:10 a.m. at his residence. Mark was born on Oct. 8, 1942, in Troy, to the late George and Ilene (Hague) Verdier.
On June 8, 1996, he married Gloria Symonds, of Wapakoneta. They have been married for 17 years and she survives.
Mark is also survived by three sons, Stephen Verdier, of Anna, Mike Verdier and Scott Verdier, both of Sidney; two step-sons, Sean Christian, of Piqua, Adam Christian and wife Laura, of Sidney; mother-in-law, Norma Symonds, of Wapakoneta; sisters, Kay (Kenny) Skidmore, of London, Ohio, and Sonia (Ron) Shook, of West Milton; grandchildren, Lindsey Goffena, Brant Verdier and Hallie Verdier; two great-grandchildren; brothers and sister-in-law, Beverly (Joe) Hurlburt, of St. Marys, Wayne Symonds, of Indian Lake and Gary (Chris) Symonds, of Lima.
Mark graduated from Sidney High School. He had worked at LeRoi Dresser as a machinist for many years, advancing within the company and later retiring as a painter. He belonged to the Shelby County Deer Hunters Association. Mark loved to collect guns and also belonged to many gun clubs over the years. He enjoyed trains of all kinds, woodworking and yard work.
Many of his family and friends referred to him as the Jack-of-all-trades because he thoroughly enjoyed helping others.
Mark loved his extended family, he was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend, and will be sadly missed by all that knew him.
Services will be conducted on Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the Adams Funeral Home, 1401 Fair Road, Sidney, Ohio, 45365, with Mark’s son Scott offering a special family service.
Burial will follow at Cedar Point Cemetery, in Pasco.
Visiting hours for family and friends will be on Friday from 9-11 a.m. at the funeral home prior to services.
Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice in Mark’s memory. Donation envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
