While President Barack Obama continues to push for implementation of his national health plan, one U.S. legislator says the Affordable Care Act does not work and will not work because it does not address the real problem plaguing the United States and by delaying implementation of a flawed system is “just kicking the can down the road.”
Republican U.S. Sen. Rob Portman attacked the Affordable Care Act, which has adopted the president’s name and is known as Obamacare, because the plan promises too much and does not address the most daunting problem in regard to health care coverage.
“The only way to really deal with the health care issue is to start over, change his approach, let people keep what they have and then focus on the cost of health care — which is actually the biggest issue to access is cost,” Portman said Thursday during a media teleconference. “The United States pays approximately twice as much as other developed countries for health care, yet we don’t have the results which would justify that and we have a lot of people uninsured — over 50 million.”
