The Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers came in last in the Northwest Central Conference boys golf tournament Wednesday.
W-G shot a season-high 427 at the Veterans Memorial Park Golf Club in Kenton.
“We did not play very well at all today,” W-G varsity coach Craig Ludwig said Wednesday. “I’m pretty disappointed in the outcome. We were definitely a better team than what we showed.”
The coach also said it was disappointing to finish last after going 3-3 in match play against NWCC teams this fall.
Trey Crumrine led W-G with a 94 on Wednesday. Lake Turner shot an even 100. Drew Lament posted a 116. Gabe Wilcox and Brandon Turner each shot 117. Caden Spencer tallied a 120.
W-G played the back nine on the course in Kenton in a league match against Ridgemont on Aug. 15 and shot 183 as a team for nine holes.
Plus, Ludwig said his players went and played the course again Sunday in advance of Wednesday’s tournament.
The tournament Wednesday was W-G’s first event in nine days and just its second since Aug. 27.
The Tigers also have five players on the school’s football team, which occupies most of the golfers’ time for practice.
“With football, we hadn’t much time to practice,” Ludwig said.
W-G will play Thursday in a Division III Northwest District sectional tournament at Hawthorne Hills Golf Club in Lima, where the Tigers will see follow NWCC teams Perry and Temple Christian, as well as Minster and Arlington, each of which beat W-G in separate matches earlier this season.
The top three teams and the top four individuals Thursday at sectionals will advance to the Division III Northwest District tournament Oct. 3 at Stone Ridge Golf Club in Bowling Green.
Upper Scioto Valley won the NWCC Tournament on Wednesday. Perry won second place on a tiebreaker over Lehman Catholic.
