Karen S. Sheipline, 72, of Hershey, Pa., formally of Columbus, died Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, at her home, while under Hospice care.
She was born Sept. 10, 1940, in Columbus, the daughter of the late Sylvia (Wear) and Roy Reed.
Surviving are her husband, Larry L. Sheipline, of Hershey, Pa. (formally of Wapakoneta); and two brothers, Frank J. Reed Sr., of Columbus, and William (Bill) A. (Sheila) Reed, of Bexley.
She was a 1958 graduate of Bexley High School, in Bexley, and attended The Ohio State University majoring in fine arts and the Columbus School of Art. Karen held senior administrative positions at several non-profit corporations, including WITF Public Broadcasting Co. She concluded her career as an administrative assistant at The Harrisburg Foundation. Karen was very active in the local Hershey arts scene. She performed four-part harmony in four Sweet Adelines International choruses and quartets. She also was a fine artist who displayed her work regionally in central Pennsylvania and had won several regional awards in oil, watercolor and pastel. Karen was a four-term president of the Hershey Area Art Association; two-term member of the Board of Directors, Atlantic Bay-Mountain Region 19, Sweet Adelines International; and a former Derry Township Republican Committee woman. She was a member of several central Pennsylvania area art associations and the National Museum of Women in the Arts.
A visitation will be held Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m. at Schoedinger East Chapel, 5360 E. Livingston Ave., Columbus, where a funeral service will begin at 1 pm. Interment is to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
