The Wapakoneta Redskins soundly defeated the Parkway Panthers, 199-277, in a varsity girls golf match Wednesday at the Wapakoneta Country Club.
Wapak senior Shelby Kohler was headed for a sub-40 round but took an eight on hole No. 8. Kohler finished with a par on the ninth hole.
“I know she was disappointed with her overall score especially knowing that her round was so close to great, but she learned that when you’re in that situation, you just keep playing like you had been all day, one shot at at time,” Wapak varsity coach Dawn West said.
Zoe Rayburn (48) followed Kohler’s 42. Emily Klopfenstein (51) and Sierra Sammons (58) accounted for Wapak’s other two scores.
Wapak’s win Wednesday followed a loss in its previous home match to Minster.
“We played much better tonight then the last time we were home,” West said Wednesday. “The ladies were in much better control of their games and did a nice job of course management.
“Our putting was so much better today, and we did a good job of being on the correct side of the hole,” she said. “When you can do that it makes that first putt so much easier.”
The Redskins are now 4-2 overall this season.
Wapak is in action next on Wednesday at Lincolnview to be played at Hickory Sticks Golf Club in Van Wert.
Parkway was led Wednesday by Terra Walls’ 56.
Other scores for the Panthers included Brenna Brazle’s 63, Taylor Hesse’s 77 and Autum Stettler’s 81.
