Marilyn L. Ley Rhind, 86, of Lima, died at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, June 26, at Springview Manor in Lima.
She was born July 3, 1926, in Rockwood, Tenn., the daughter of Helen Faye East and Earl Abel Gibson. On Dec. 12, 1943, she married Bill Ley, and he died Dec. 30, 1974. On Nov. 1, 1978, she married Donald Rhind, and he died Jan. 20, 1999.
Surviving are two sons, Dennis (Ginny) Ley, of Lima, and Alan (Terri) Ley, of Lima; a daughter, Janice (Ron) Roberts, of Lima; a brother, Howard Owen Gibson, of Rockwood, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren, Dennis (Kim) Ley, Steve (Annette) Ley, Michael (Kyle) Ley, Cristy (Jered) Moening, Clint (Julie) Roberts, Angela (Brian) Keas, Tracy (Craig) Bradford, Randi (Gary) Rupersburg, Shawn Ley, Cory (Sarah) Ley, and Steve (Jenny) Ley; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Marilyn had attended Central High School. After high school she attended and graduated from Ohio Northern University with a bachelor’s degree in education. She then received her master’s degree from St. Francis College in Fort Wayne, Ind. Marilyn taught in Lima City Public Schools as a history and English teacher for 15 years. She then took a position as guidance counselor with Wapakoneta City Schools for 12 years, retiring in 1987. Some of her hobbies included traveling, tennis, painting, knitting, and crocheting. She loved music and could play the organ and piano. Most of all she loved her family and will be remembered as a very devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
Services are at 11 a.m. Saturday at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation, Shawnee Chapel, with the Rev. Mike Boyes officiating. Burial is to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Lima.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
