Shirley A. Lageman, 77, 10357 Kettlersville Road, New Knoxville, died at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys following an extended illness.
She was born Aug. 3, 1935, in Auglaize County, the daughter of Carrie (Christler) and John Elsass. On Feb. 14, 1959, she married James Lageman, and he survives at the residence.
Also surviving are three daughters, Barbara (Wayne) Bateman, of O’Fallon, Mo., Annette (Donald) Siegler, of West Chester, and Jeanette (Fred) Coulson, of Loveland; a son, Mark (Sarah) Lageman, of New Knoxville; 10 grandchildren, Nick Siegler, Belinda Bateman, Denver Coulson, Zachary Lageman, Shelby Bateman, Austin Coulson, Ryan Lageman, Abigail Lageman, Jonah Lageman, and Caleb Lageman; two sisters, Marge Daugherty, of St. Marys, and Sharon Clark, of Shawnee; and two brothers, Richard Elsass, of New Knoxville, and Ted Elsass, of Celina.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, Howard Elsass, Warren Elsass, Gerald Elsass, Donald Elsass, and Ned Elsass; and two sisters, Bonita Hughs and Berniece Whetstone.
She was a 1953 graduate of Buckland High School. She was a very active member of Faith Alliance Church in New Bremen, where she had taught Sunday School for many years. She was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing, traveling, music, and playing games with her grandchildren.
Services are at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Faith Alliance Church in New Bremen, with the Rev. Tom Sager officiating. Burial will follow at German Protestant Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
Contributions may be given to either World Vision, The Compassion Mission Fund or Ohio Right To Life.
