“Praise the Lord” were the last words of Donald E. Davis, 83, of rural Wapakoneta, who went to his heavenly home at 7:15 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013.
He was born July 6, 1929, in Lima, the son of the late Koneta (Moyer) and Chester Davis. On July 22, 1950, he married Loretta J. Kennedy, his sweetheart of over 62 years, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, David (Laurie) Davis, of Cridersville; three daughters, Cynthia (Dan) Smith, of Wapakoneta, Sharon (Everett) Gross, of St. Johns, and Christina (Steve) Davis, of New Castle, Del.; seven grandchildren, Thad, Keon, Ethan, Tristan, Lauren, Julia, and Matthew; two step-grandchildren, Lindsey and Rian; five great-grandchildren, Ezra, Nevaeh, Alena, Kelsey and Lincoln; two step-great-grandchildren, Olivia and Samanatha; a brother, David C. Davis, of Cridersville; two sisters, Doris Peterson, of Whittier, Calif.; and Mary Kornhaus, of Mansfield.
Mr. Davis’s passion was farming and raising sheep. He retired as a welder from General Dynamics. After graduating in 1947 from Shawnee High School, he served with the U.S. Army. He was a 4-H adviser for 34 years and attended Immanuel Baptist Church.
Services are at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home in Cridersville, with the Rev. Arthur Alexander officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, in Lima.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to the Allen County 4-H or Immanuel Baptist Church.
