A local organization once again put together a compilation of historic photos together for their annual fundraiser.
The Downtown Wapakoneta Partnership (DWP) is currently selling their fourth annual calendars, and the 2013 Wapakoneta History Calendar is currently available.
“It’s a good gift for someone who has Wapak roots,” DWP President Dianne Knipp said. “It’s a small gift for people who enjoy history and for people who have ties to Wapak. It brings back a lot of memories.”
The calendars are $5 and can be purchased at local businesses, including members of Wapakoneta Antique and Specialty Shops (WASS). It is also on sale at the Wapakoneta Area Chamber of Commerce.
Knipp said that numerous people in the community — including people with former ties to the area — have come forth with historic photographs around Wapakoneta, and each photo has a short story included in the calendars.
“These photos are from all over Wapakoneta,” Knipp said.
From a former gasoline station to an interior shot of a ballroom in the current Auglaize Antique Mall, the calendar has a variety of photos, including landmarks and people.
“We try to identify all people in the photos,” Knipp said.
Included in the calendar will be a photograph of the St. Joe football team, which Knipp said was a short-lived team as the team only lasted a couple years.
Knipp noted that the first two years when this calendar was printed, it had a good turnout in sales, and Knipp said her goal was to chose the best quality photos.
She said she took some extra efforts this year, as she worked with Wapakoneta Daily News Printing Administrator Nina Laney, to have the best quality print they could do.
All of the proceeds from the calendar will be used for DWP downtown improvement funds, which will include the façade improvement fund.
“This is a great way to share the history of Wapakoneta and get to know some of the citizens that have enjoyed living and working here,” Knipp said.
