Marjorie L. Burnfield, 89, of Wapakoneta, died 2:22 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, at the Wapakoneta Manor.
She was born Aug. 27, 1923, in Cleveland, Okla., the daughter of Cretora (Weaver) and Leo Earl Shields, who preceded her in death. On Dec. 28, 1947, she married Emerson E. Burnfield, and he died Dec. 17, 2006.
Survivors include seven children, Tim (Linda) Burnfield, of Ansonia, Sue (Walter) Ramsey, of Bellville, Ted (Abbie) Burnfield, of Stanzel, Iowa, Dan (Pam) Burnfield, of Wapakoneta, Kay (Jerry) Mack, of Wapakoneta, Joy (Fred) Stone, of Lucas, Kit (Michael) Bowersock, of Wapakoneta; 23 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild; a brother, Terry (Jodi) Shields, Truth or Consequences, Ariz., a sister, Marilyn (Ernest) Hengstler, of Wapakoneta; two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Shields, of Waynesfield, and Ruth Burnfield, Spencerville.
She was preceded in death by two grandchildren; a brother, Richard Shields; and three sisters, Betty Helmlinger, Doris Shields and Carolyn Linet.
A homemaker, Marjorie was a member of Bethlehem Christian Union Church, near Buckland, and it’s Ladies Aid Society. Marjorie leaves a rich legacy of her life on her family, her community and around the world. After retiring from the family farm, she and her husband spent 18 years assisting in mission work in Nigeria, Dominican Republic, Belize, Panama, Costa Rica, and the Bahamas. The two important things in her life were her faith and the love for her family. She also enjoyed painting.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Thurs. Nov. 8, 2012 at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, State Route 501, Wapakoneta, with the Pastor Kent Place officiating.
Burial will be in the Fort Amanda Cemetery, Logan Township.
The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m., Wednesday and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
