Thomas D. Emrick, 59, formerly of Kokomo, Ind., and formerly of Cridersville, passed away at 1:05 a.m. Oct. 11, 2012, at the VA Hospital in Marion, Ind.
He was born Nov. 2, 1952, in Lima, the son of Shirley Maxine (Thrush) and Richard Dean Emrick. His parents survive in Cridersville.
Also surviving are a brother, Mark Emrick, of Wapakoneta; a daughter, Laura (Charles Dale) Ford, of West Chester; a son, Ryan (Erin Riley) Emrick, of Kokomo, Ind.; five grandchildren, Mary Katherine Emrick, Charles Alexander Ford, Riley Dean Emrick, Annabelle Rose Ford, and Cale Joseph Emrick; and a nephew, Jesse Emrick, of Wapakoneta.
Thomas graduated from Wapakoneta High School in 1971. He then went on to serve in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War and returned home to serve in the Air Force Reserves at Grissom Air Force Base in Kokomo, Ind. to complete his military service. He then went on to receive his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education. Thomas was a seventh-grade social studies teacher with Kokomo Center Schools until he retired where he also coached the girls’ basketball team to many championships. He was a passionate teacher and coach and when he wasn’t busy serving the needs of his students and school he thoroughly enjoyed golfing and spending time with his family.
Thomas was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by many people, most especially his family.
Services are at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cridersville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Charles Martindell officiating. Military rites will be observed by V.F.W. Post 8445 of Wapakoneta.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, in Cridersville and 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
