Michael P. Grove, 70, of Wapakoneta, died Tuesday, July 17, 2012, in Allen County, where he was working on the Miami-Erie Canal restoration.
He was born March 21, 1942, in Zanesville, the son of June (Pierce) and Gene Grove, who preceded him in death. On Sept. 29, 1979, he married Anne M. Heil, and she survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Mark (Nicole) Grove, of Lima, Gary Grove, of Kettering, and Michael (Teena) Grove, of Gilbert, Ariz.; seven grandchildren, Bret Grove, Lakin Grove, Bailey Young, Olivia Grove, Brooklyn Grove, Kendall Grove, and Ronin Grove; a sister-in-law, Marcia Quellhorst; a niece, Michelle Scheer; and a former wife, Sharon (Mike) Roeder.
Mike retired from Westinghouse Corp. in Lima after 29 years service. He was a member of the National Rifle Association. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, golfing, boating, and camping. He was a member of the Jennings Creek Rendezvous, and his nickname was Tomahawk. He also volunteered as a group leader with the Miami-Erie Canal Corridor Association. He was a member of the Brands Lake Fishing Club and the Ohio Buckeye Farmers Association.
Services are at 5 p.m. Friday at Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, State Route 501, Wapakoneta, with the Rev. Joy Miller officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 5 p.m. p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.
