WAYNESFIELD — Costly errors came back to haunt the Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers as they suffered an 8-2 loss to the Fort Recovery Indians in a six-inning non-league varsity baseball game Friday at Waynesfield-Goshen High School.
Of the Indians’ eight runs, five of them were batters who reached base either on an error or a walk.
The Tigers actually outhit Fort Recovery 9-7. But W-G couldn’t convert and left 11 runners on base.
The loss dropped W-G to 0-4 on the season.
Both Tigers runs were scored in the fifth inning after Fort Recovery had already built a 7-0 lead.
Junior Gabe Hennon led off with a single and stole second. Freshman Lake Turner drew a walk before senior Ron Jarvis reached on an error to load the bases with no outs.
Junior Cole Sackinger plated Hennon with a sacrifice fly to center. And junior Garret Miller’s two-out single scored Turner.
The Tigers will take on the Botkins Trojans in a doubleheader today at Waynesfield-Goshen. The first game begins at 11 a.m.
