Donald G. McName Sr., 82, of Lima, formerly of Buckland, died at 9:27 a.m. Thursday, March 29, 2012, at Koester Pavilion, in Troy.
He was born April 6, 1929, in Buckland, the son of Ruth (Flarida) and Walter E. McName, who preceded him in death. He was married to Dorothy Sneary and Inez Lotters.
Surviving are a son, Donald G. McName II, of Lima; two daughters, Donna Clawson (Ronald Bornhorst), of Piqua, and Hope J. Sterling (Kenneth L. Keller), of Lander, Wyo.; five grandchildren, Jamey Clawson, Joe McName, Jill Bechtol, Kim (Mark) Bonnalie, and John (JT) Sterling; four great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Dick Wilges, of Wapakoneta; and a sister-in-law, Barbara McName, of Wapakoneta.
He was preceded in death by a son; Robby McName; a sister Lou Wilges; and a brother Kenneth McName.
Don retired in 1994 from the Ford Motor Co., Lima Engine Plant after 34 years of service. He was a former member of the Bethlehem Christian Union Church and a 1947 graduate of Buckland High School. He served with the U.S. Army 58th Ordinance AMMO Co. during the Korean War. A life member of the V.F.W. Post 1275, Lima, Don’s other memberships included the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Aerie 691, Wapakoneta, B.P.O.E. Elks, 45, the Fraternal Order Orioles, Nest 173, and the Loyal Order of the Moose 52, all of Lima. His hobbies included ballroom dancing and big band music.
Services are at 10 a.m. Monday at Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, St. Rt. 501, Wapakoneta, with the Rev. Brad Colley officiating. Burial will follow in the Buckland Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by the Wapakoneta V.F.W.
Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday and 9 to 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
